Gilgit-Baltistan: Devising Comprehensive strategy to utilize the hydel and other sources of power generation from GB
Islamabad—Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs & Gilgit-Baltistan, Mian Manzoor Ahmad Wattoo Thursday underlined the need for devising a comprehensive strategy to utilize the hydel and other sources of power generation from Gilgit-Baltistan. The minister said this while chairing a high level meeting of Gilgit- Baltistan Power Generation Board here on Thursday,says a press release here.
The meeting was attended by Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan, Syed Mehdi Shah, Minister for Water and Power GB, Secretary KA&GB, Muhammad Javed Malik, Joint Secretary Gilgit-Baltistan Council, Shakil Malik, representative of Ministry of Water and Power and others. The Federal Minister and Chief Minister GB agreed that government of Gilgit-Baltistan and GB Council should be given equal representation in the GB Power Generation Board.
It was informed in the meeting that Minister Kashmir Affairs & Gilgit-Baltistan will be the Chairman and Chief Minister GB would be the Vice-Chairman of the Board. Meanwhile, the power shortfall on Tuesday again surged to 5,722 MW from 4,909 MW, forcing the Pakistan Electric Supply Company (PEPCO) to observe 8-12 hour loadshedding in urban and rural areas. According to daily power generation report, the power generation was recorded 12,616 MW against the total demand of 18,338 MW during the last 24 hours.—APP
