ISLAMABAD: The Gilgit-Baltistan government on Friday formally decided to impose income tax on corporate sector, registered firms and corporations and salaried class and piece of legislation is expected to be tabled in Gilgit-Baltistan Council session, commencing on October 03. Interestingly, Gilgit-Baltistan Finance Minister Muhammad Ali Akhtar was not present during the deliberations. He was also missing from the last Friday’s meeting. Though he was not available for comment, a source close to him told The News he would resist such ìanti-people stepî on the floor of the legislature. He warned people will take to streets in case the government pushed ahead with the imposition of income tax and things may turn ugly for Chief Minister Syed Mehdi Shah.
