GILGIT (APP): The annual budget of Rs.24.5 billion for financial year 2013-14 was presented here Tuesday in the Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) Legislative Assembly.
The Finance Minister Muhammad Ali Akhtar presented the budget speech in the session which started this afternoon.
Elaborated security measures were adopted during the budget speech.
Addressing the session Finance Minister said GB budget shall be worth over Rs 24.5 billion.
Finance Minister said Rs 10.5 billion have been allocated for non-development expenditure while rest of the amount shall be spent on development projects in the region.
He said Rs.14 billion have been earmarked for development expenditure.
He further said top priority has been given to power sector for which 2.14 billion rupees have been set.
“975 million rupees have been allocated for transport and communication 629 million rupees for education more than 616 million rupees for housing and physical planning and over 432 million rupees for health sector,” he added.
In the budget a 10 per cent raise in the salaries of the government employees were also announced.
In resolution the house condemned the killing of eleven tourists and one Pakistani guide at Nanga Parbat base camp and said this was in fact an attack on the national integrity of the country.
The house was adjourned to meet again after two days.
